A hard science with soft solutions
Clinical Psychoneuroimmunology (cPNI) is a multidisciplinary science with a holistic and systems approach. Evidence-based-medicine is always the premise. Interventions are non-invasive and based on best practice. As such cPNI is a hard science with soft interventions.
Evolutionary biology: our roots
Notion and acknowledgement of our origins, and thus evolutionary biology, guides our practice. Evolution has shaped our genome and mechanisms. It provides deep insights and clues in origins of both diseases as well as the route to the restoration of health.
Ultimate medine: root causes
Symptoms - and the disease where patients seek support for - is only a snapshot of the present situation. An expression and manifestation of deeper, disrupted mechanisms in our system, not a root-cause. Dysfunction of one mechanism gives rise to disruption of the other. One chronic disease - when left untreated - creates a breeding ground for the next. A focus on treatment of root-causes rather than symptoms is of vital importance. It is the only way to realise sustainable and long lasting health outcomes.
Film Medicine
cPNI recognizes that chronic diseases develop over time. The accumulation of risk factors and dysfunctional mechanisms are the disease film, leading to the situation at the end of the film: the disease as it presents itself with its symptoms. As unravelling the disease film lays at the core of clinical PNI, it is also referred to as ‘Film Medicine’.
Understanding the disease film allows for interventions at multiple levels. Rewinding the disease film enables treatment of all relevant disrupted mechanisms. It gives rise to root-cause medicine.
A meta-discipline
We do not reject any proven method, instead we aim to be a meta-discipline where specialists from different disciplines are united under one umbrella: psychoneuroimmunology. With PNI we aim to bundle strengths, bring together specialisms in a systems approach and connect the dots in health.
